McComish receives AAA Lifetime Achievement

The Race Is On

Getting ready for election day

During the past several weeks, you’ve likely noticed the number of ads on billboards, radio, newspapers, and television touting the qualifications of the various candidates who are vying to become Arizona’s next governor.

AA recognized the importance of electing leaders who are committed to making our everyday security a priority, maintaining a vital economy, overseeing a safe and efficient transportation system, and promoting tourism. AAA also hopes Arizona’s next governor will share in the auto club’s mission to keep Arizona’s roadways safe for all road users.

To find out where each candidate stands on these issues, which are of great importance to our members, we asked each a series of questions. Our goal in asking these questions is to provide AAA members with an opportunity to learn how our sate’s future leaders plan to act on these critical issues.

Read some of their responses at for their completed answers.

AAA is quick to laud state leaders who are proactive with traffic safety. Recently, AAA awarded Rep. Karen Fann with the Legislator of the Year award and Sen. John McComish with a Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing both of their tireless efforts toward saving lives on our roadways. McComish was honored for resolving several traffic safety issues, notwithstanding his longterm championing of a stronger graduated driver license (GDL) law, which was enacted in 2008. GDL laws have resulted in up to a 38 percent reduction in teen driving deaths around the country. Fann earned recognition for her continued support of the proposed laws to ban wireless device usage by novice drivers.

Members deserve to know where their elected officials stand on issues related to their safety and security, so we compiled a list of important legislation that was considered over the past two years and indicated how each fared among legislators. To see how your representative voted on key legislation, visit AAA Arizona’s legislative page at the link above.

Promoted and preserving safety continues to be critical to AAA’s mission, and we applaud those elected officials who have joined us in this cause.

13 Days Until Primary Election

The Primary Election is less than two weeks away and I wanted to share Governor Jan Brewer’s endorsement for my campaign for Kyrene Justice of the Peace. Governor Brewer was faced with significant challenges upon taking office and exhibits true leadership and thoughtfulness in the decisions she makes for Arizona. It is an honor to receive her endorsement.

“Senator John McComish has always represented his constituency with the highest honor and integrity. His record proves he is a true fiscal conservative who understands the value limited government plays in protecting our basic fundamental rights. As Justice of the Peace, John’s experience will bring fairness, objectivity and stability to the bench. He will serve his community with dignity and distinction and I am proud to lend him my support.”

– Governor Jan Brewer

I humbly ask for your vote in the upcoming Primary Election on August 26th. If you haven’t requested your early ballot yet, the deadline is August 15th at 5:00 p.m. You can request one here.

McComish perfect fit for Justice of the Peace

Justice of the Peace (JP) is an important but often overlooked elected position. It should be held by someone that has demonstrated fairness, strong decision making and administrative skills, and has diverse work and life experiences. John McComish is that person. All people appearing before a JP should be treated fairly.

As a high ranking legislator McComish earned a reputation for doing just that. His actions weren’t politically expedient. They were fair. The Justice Court is a complex operation that needs a strong decision maker and administrator. A JP should come to the job with those skills. Not hope to learn them while there. McComish developed those skills long ago as a national sales manager for Johnson & Johnson. He demonstrated them in our community for 10 years as president of the Ahwatukee Foothills Chamber of Commerce. He spent another 10 years in the state Legislature writing the laws he will enforce as JP.

Please join me in supporting John McComish for Justice of the Peace. He is the most qualified candidate for the job.
